Dramaturgy and performance
I am Kate Adams, a performance maker, dramaturg and lecturer in theatre. I am trying to make work which explores ways of staging vulnerability in order to facilitate a hospitable space for the spectator. I am interested in how humour, music, poetry or wordplay, and shifts in energy function in my shows. I want to invite you into a space where it's okay to fail to express things - where the jokes don't always have to work and I might sing a wrong note, but we are all in it together.
I called this website ‘artistheatis’ because I wasn't really sure what I was. It's got the word artist in there and it's got the word for spectator in greek too: theatis (θεατής). Am I an ‘artistheatis’? We'll see. In this blog, I'll occasionally try to write what I'm thinking about my process.
Look for posts in greek here! I am learning Greek, so the category Μαθήματα Ελληνικών is my public practice area. Low in sophistication but high in good intentions. Καλώς ήρθατε στα μαθήματα ελληνικών. Θα γράψω κριτικές για την μουσική, τον χόρο και το θέατρο της Αθήνας.
